Toor Dal Patty with Tomato Cream Sauce and Salad
Ingredients
For the Toor Dal Patties:

1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 green chili, finely chopped
-
1-inch piece of ginger, grated

2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped

1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

Salt, to taste

Oil, for shallow frying
For the Tomato Cream Sauce:

2 ripe tomatoes, chopped
-
1/2 cup fresh cream or coconut cream
-
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
-
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
-
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
-
Salt, to taste
-
1 tablespoon oil
For the Salad:
-
1 cucumber, diced
-
1 tomato, diced
-
1 small onion, thinly sliced
-
Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
-
Juice of 1 lemon

Instructions
Preparing the Toor Dal Patties:

Rinse the toor dal thoroughly and soak it in water for at least 2 hours.

Drain the soaked dal and grind it coarsely without adding water.

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground dal with chopped onion, green chili, grated ginger, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix well.

Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into small patties.

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Shallow fry the patties until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides. Remove and drain on paper towels.youtube.com
Preparing the Tomato Cream Sauce:

Heat oil in a saucepan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.

Add chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates.

Lower the heat and stir in the cream. Cook for a few more minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
Preparing the Salad:

In a bowl, combine diced cucumber, tomato, sliced onion, and chopped coriander leaves.

Drizzle with lemon juice and season with salt and pepper. Toss well.
Serving Suggestion
